First we mixed white glue and colored craft paint and painted the inside of glass jars.
Then we decorated the outside of the jars with black vinyl Halloween motifs cut on the Cricut....they are starting to look spooky!
Then we put candles in them and.......
...turned out the lights! They are so cute and very spooky!!
I just wondered about putting the paint on the inside of the jar, where the candle will be burning-is it ok to do that? Isn't the paint flammable? Have you tried to do the paint on the outside, or does it not work/look the same? These are beautiful, and I can't wait to try them!!
ReplyDeleteI have never had a problem with the paint inside. I don't think craft paint is as flammable as spray paint. Painting the outsides doesn't look as good. I wouldn't leave the candles unattended though - as with any candle :)

ReplyDeleteAnother great idea (for those concerned about flammability) is to buy battery-operated tea lights. You can get 3/$1 at Dollar Trees or similar stores. :)

ReplyDeleteI love these! They look a lot nicer than some I've seen because you painted the INSIDE. I'd love to make some of these for my daughter's dorm room at college. They aren't allowed to light real candles in their rooms, so I'll put battery operated tea lights inside. Can you tell us the ratio of glue to paint? Or do you just mix the paint with the glue until you get the shade of color that you want? Since the glue normally dries clear, when it's mixed with the paint, does the paint dry darker? Thanks!

ok...realize this craft was posted a year ago, but can you let us know what cartridges you used?
ReplyDeleteat the dollar tree they have those flickering no flame tea lights much safer to use than real candles
ReplyDeleteIt looks like she used the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge for most of it. And some of the spiders look like they came from the Doodlecharms cartridge. I have these two cartridges so I recognize the cutouts from them.

ReplyDeleteI love the way these look.. Thanks for sharing. One question, why do you add glue to the paint?? Can you use just the paint without glue?
ReplyDeleteCamille, the addition of the glue changes the consistency of the paint.otherwise it would eventually just peel or flake off, since there isnt a top clear coat being applied.you can also do this with mod podge and food coloring, its going to be alot thinner, more of a frosted look.
